Japan sets out education stall in Vientiane
The Study in Japan Fair 2011 held at the National University of Laos (NUOL) on Wednesday provided teachers, officials and students with a better understanding of education opportunities in Japan.
The fair offered an opportunity for attendees to meet representatives from eight Japanese universities and five Japanese organisations.
“The NUOL, the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Lao-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) cooperated with universities, organisations, and the Japan Alumni of Laos (JAOL) to hold the fair. It marks the upcoming 15th anniversary of the founding of the NUOL, provides information about education in Japan and strengthens relations between education institutions in Laos and Japan,” NUOL President Professor Dr Soukkongseng Saingaleuth said.
“ T he government and people of Laos have received extensive support from the Japanese government, wh ich has broadened the cooperation between the two countries in all sectors including education, especially in terms of technical skills and scholarships.”
NUOL has built a collaborative relationship with 22 universities and institutions in Japan through education, research, and teacher and cultural exchanges.
NUOL runs the LJI, which is funded by the Japanese government and contributes to human resource development in business administration, Japanese language training, computer skills and cultural exchanges by inviting Japanese experts to share their knowledge with Lao students.
Prof. Dr Soukkongseng said he hoped the fair would benefit participants through the information provided and discussions with representatives of Japanese universities. Attendees could discuss their aspirations and identify potential areas of cooperation in education.
