Cellphone users in Laos to dial eight digits as of June 1
(KPL) The National Authority of Posts and Telecommunications (NAPT) early this week said that it had decided to add one more prefix number to every mobile phone number except those of ETL network.
The NAPT said that the addition was a result of the rapid increase in cellphone users across the country over the past couples of years as the seven-digit numbers didn�t meet the quantitative demand of cellphone users.
Cellphone users of the biggest mobile phone network - Lao Telecom, have to dial 5 as the prefix digit to their original numbers.
Meanwhile the subscribers of Unitel of the Lao Star Telecom need to dial 9 as the prefix digit and Tigo users of the Millicom Lao Co Ltd will dial 7 as the prefix number.
The NAPT added that it would announce later when the addition of one more prefix digit to ETL (Enterprise of Telecommunications Lao) number was needed
