Lao coffee goes international !

Soeborg, Denmark -- GEA Niro has recently won a contract worth several million Euro with Dao Heuang Group in Laos for the delivery of a complete instant coffee processing line. When in full production the processing line will produce 3,000 tons of instant coffee annually and is scheduled to start operation in November 2011.

The ground-breaking ceremony in Pakse-Laos took place on 16. April, 2010, and was attended by Laos’ former president Mr. Khamtai Siphandone; Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad; and a number of other VIP guests. GEA Niro was represented by Deputy Division Manager Sten Warburg and Lars Hamann Petersen.

In recent years GEA Niro has become a world leader in the supply of processing lines for instant coffee with completed projects in Russia, Mexico, China and Vietnam. This latest project requires the company to supply two extraction lines each of the type FIC “2 in 1” , 2-evaporators, 2-aroma recovery plant type ARC, a spray dryer type GIC, an agglomerator type RWA and a CONRAD WB, an extendable continuous freeze drying plant.

The plant will be built greenfield sight with GEA Niro taking a decisive share of the responsibility. Kim Knudsen, sales manager in the company’s Food & Dairy Division, said that it had been a challenging negotiation taking some five years from the initial contact to completion.

“But in hindsight it is very rewarding for us that our persistence and hard work was been worthwhile,” he said. “This has confirmed our global position as the absolute preferred supplier of equipment for instant coffee production and proves that we can manage and implement greenfield projects worldwide.”

The plant will be constructed in Pakse in the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic and will, when complete, be one of the country’s largest food processing plants.
