Laos edge Thailand to finish third in AFF U-16

VIENTIANE (8 June 2012) – Laos beat nine-man Thailand 3-0 to finish third in the AFF Under-16 Preparatory Tournament 2012 here at the Lao National Stadium.
In the match that was always going to be volatile, the Thais put up a much better display when compared to their first meeting earlier when the two sides battled to a 1-o win for the hosts.
But with the rain coming down for the first time in the tournament this year, the pace of the game will be pegged down somewhat even though Laos did welcome the return of striker Armysay Kettavong.
At the start, both teams were cautious and were not willing to commit too much although Laos did come close in the fifth minute through who else but Armysay only for him to muff his chance altogether.
Thailand responded in the 14th minute with a superb freekick from Kunawut Maperm but he narrowly missed his intended target.
With the score tied at the break, the second half saw both teams growing in frustration, more so for the home side as in spite of the rain, several thousand still turn up at the stands to support the youngsters.
In the 54th minute, a dipping shot from Anoukone Keola off a freekick saw Thai custodian Apirak Worawong scrambling for the save.
But a clash in the 63rd minute which saw Thai midfielder Kittikai Juntaraksa picking up his second red card in two matches would change the temperament and ultimately the outcome of the tie.

In the 75th minute, as Laos piled on the pressure on the Thai backline, a cross from Jo Sandala was out into the back of the net by Thai defender Jutitep Tonglim. And several exchanges to be followed by some late tackles later, saw Thailand defender Supravee Miprathang picking up his second yellow card of the game.
Referee Steve Supresencia of the Philippines showed Supravee the marching orders as Thailand were forced to play the remainder of the match with nine men. With the numerical advantage that they had and as Thailand tire down in the closing stages, Laos then proceeded to add two more goals through Southavone Thammada and Jo Sandala.

Cambodia beat Laos 4-2 in World Cup qualifier first leg

Cambodia took a step closer to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil by beating Laos 4-2 in the first leg of their Asian Group first round qualifier at Olympic Stadium this afternoon. Undeterred by a 1-0 deficit at half time from a long range free kick by the visitors’ Manolom Phomsouvanh, the hosts hit back hard in the second period with a barrage of goals in quick succession.

Striker Khoun Laboravy got things back on level terms on 51 minutes by dispossessing the Laotian defence and slotting past the keeper. Teammate Sam El Nasa then snatched the lead moments later with a competent finish.

Laos came back to equalise via yet another emphatically converted set piece from Phomsouvanh before Kuoch Sokumpheak put Cambodia’s noses in front once again.

The final stages saw some thrilling end-to-end moves and with momentum remaining with the home side, El Nasa slid in on 88 minutes to notch his own brace off a fine Laboravy cut back.

Cambodia will now head to Vientiane for the return leg on Sunday carrying a two-goal cushion, with the winner set to play a further two-legged round against China on July 23 and 28.

Famous Japanese footballers to visit Laos

The Japanese professional footballer Association (JPFA) and some Japan's favorite footballers are planning to visit Laos after finishing Japanese league play at the end of this year.

The delegation will be led by JPFA Chairman Mr. Toshiya Fujita and will be the first time that he and Japaneses footballers have visited Laos.

The JPFA will discuss collaboration with the football federation and the Ministry of education and sports to develop the nation's players and lao sports, said director general of the international relations department of the lao national sports committee, Mr. Soulasith Oupravanh.

The lao football team plans to compete in the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia in November and the ninth National Games to be held in Luang Prabang province in December.

During the visit, the national team will play the Japanese in a friendly match and expect to gain valuable experience in the process because the JPFA has skillful players and the Japanese league currently competes at the international level.

The talented footballers of Laos will be able to train and play in Japan and will be supported by the JPFA, Mr. Soulasith said.

Currently, the Lao players in the U-16 category are talented and will play in ASEAN tournament in Vientiane next month.

After finishing the ASEAN event, the team will prepare to play in a qualifying round, in Vientiane, for an Asian level tournament this year.

The JPFA is also looking for a professional karate-do trainer in Japan who can come to Laos and train the national team, Mr. Soulasith said.

The Lao football team is training hard to prepare for the first World cup qualifying match in Cambodia on June 27 and will face the Cambodia team again in the second qualifying round in Vientiane on July 3.

Laos to have race track to promote automative sports

Local auto company to invest in race track

A local company plans to invest about US$2 million to build a race track aimed at promoting automotive sports in Laos.

Souksomlouay Auto Service Company Director Somlouay Padabvong announced the plan during a press conference in Vientiane on Monday.

“We will invest about 17.4 billion kip (US$2 million) in the track, which will be located on 11 hectares in Xaythany district in Vientiane ,” he said.

Mr Somlouay said the track would be designed for racing all kinds of vehicles including motorcycles and cars...more info>>

He said it was not yet decided whether the race track would be an individual investment or if it would be open to shareholders or other businesses partners.

At this stage the company has not asked for government permission to develop the land, but this request will be made later this year.

Mr Somlouay said construction of the race track would be completed within 12 months of securing the land agr eement.

Vientiane Administration's Deputy Head of Office, Somphone Sengsilavong, said Laos should have a race track because similar tracks in neighbouring countries were very popular.

“So we should learn from their experiences,” Mr Somphone added.

He said the race track would be good for young people, as they like driving fast and could race on a custom-built circuit without fear of violating traffic regulations.

Mr Somlouay made the announcement during Vientiane Drift 2008, an event being held at Lao ITECC this week to promote car racing.

The Vientiane Drift runs until April 13 and will feature a concert and beauty contest.

Good Organisation the Key to A Successful Olympic Solidarity Course in Laos !

Photo: Eager students with Arif Khan in Vientiane

A peaceful country and a popular tourist destination with a population of about six million, famous for its beautiful water falls and ancient Buddhists Temples, Laos was the home for an Olympic Solidarity course from 7th to 10th June 2007.

Led by Pakistan Arif Khan, organised under the auspices of the ITTF Development Programme and with an ITTF Level One Coaches course being the curriculum; a successful itinerary was completed in the Sports Hall of Laos National University in Vientiane... more info

Popularity
Table tennis is the third most popular sport in this country after football and badminton・ said Arif Khan. Olympic Solidarity and the International Table Tennis Federation have been doing a great deal to develop and popularise the sport in Laos; this was the fourth course that was arranged in the last four years.・br>
Enthusiasm
A total of sixteen coaches came from all parts of the country to attend this course. 鄭ll the coaches showed a lot of interest in learning everything about the game・ continued Arif Khan. 溺ost of the classes went on longer than scheduled owing to the enthusiasm shown by the coaches, as they tried to get more information; seven coaches out of sixteen passed the examination.・br>
Good Organisation
The enthusiasm motivated Arif Khan who clearly appreciated the efforts that had been made to run a successful programme.

The course was very well organised and all the facilities were excellent; this was all due to the efforts of Mr. Kasem Inthara the General Secretary of Laos National Olympic Committee and Mr. Phimmasone Vilaysouk General Secretary of the Laos Table Tennis Association・ continued Arif Khan. However, the person who really worked hard and made sure that everything ran smoothly was the untiring Miss Somchai Vongsa; she is not only the back bone of the national table tennis association but also the Deputy Secretary.

Positive Effect
Good organisation is the key to success and is having a positive effect in Laos.

典he Laos Table Tennis Association seems to be doing well in raising the standard of the game amongst the juniors; they recently hired a Chinese coach to train their junior players to prepare for the South East Asia Junior Table Tennis Championships which they are organising in Vientiane from 15th to 19th June 2007・ explained Arif Khan. 典hey will be sending their team to train for two months in China this year to prepare for the South East Asia Junior Table Tennis Championships which is going to be held in December.
However, the main focus at the moment is the South East Asia Games which Laos will organize in 2009 and are most certainly they will be hoping to end proceedings with a medal haul.

Thanks
There is a very positive attitude in Laos at the moment and the officials are thankful for the support given.

泥r. Phouthong Sengakhom the President of Laos Olympic Association, Miss Sengduen Lachanthaboun President of Laos Table Tennnis Association, Mr. Kasem Inthara General Secretary Laos Olympic Committee and Mr. Phimmsone Vilaysouk General Secretary Laos Table Tennis Association have very kindly told me to thank Olympic Solidarity and the International Table Tennis Federation・ said Arid Khan. 摘specially they asked me to thank Mr. Adham Sharara ITTF President and Mr. Glenn Tepper ITTF Development Manager for providing them the opportunity to develop the game in Laos.・br>
Seizing the Chance
The opportunity has been provided but Laos is making the most of the opportunity.

的t is through the efforts of Mr Adham Sharara and Mr Glenn Tepper that further growth is possible, thus the standard of play not only in the Vientiane region will improve but they will progress internationally・ continued Arif Khan. 擢urthermore, they hope that Olympic Solidarity and the International Table Tennis Federation will further extend their co-operation and will help provide technical assistance in organising the 2009 South East Asia Games successfully.

No doubt they will receive whatever support is needed but it would seem they have a very good organisation in Laos, and whatever help is afforded, however great or small, the 2009 South East Asia Games will be a success.
