Lao students win prizes at Film Festival in Japan

On 4 December, the Film Festival was held in Minami Awaji city, Hyogo prefecture and the final selection was announced. Out of 104 films made by the Asian and Japanese students, 2 films produced by the Lao students won prizes. No afraid by the students of Phiawat Secondary School won the second award, and For the Future by the students of SOS Vientiane Secondary School also got the third award.

From 29 November to 7 December, the nine Lao secondary school students and two supervisors from Cinema Department of Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism had visited Japan to join Asian International Children's Film and Video Festival, together with the other students from nine Asian countries and region.



This program is carried out under Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Program.

This was the 5th Film Festival in Japan and the selection committee maintained their examination policy of focusing on the students ideas expressed in the films.

Students thought stories and shot films without any help of teachers and parents. The theme of this year was the Learning and Education, and the students from all the countries expressed their diverse values towards the Learning and Education in their works, which is deeply rooted in their respective culture and tradition.

During the stay in Minami Awaji city, the Lao students visited Sumoto High School and enjoyed an exchange program with Japanese students.



Following a pop music, the Japanese host students showed them a large scale calligraphy by writing on a big paper on the floor using a mop. In return, the Lao Students danced with their traditional song.

The Lao students were also welcomed to classrooms and club activities such as football and tea ceremony. After the exchange program, they enjoyed a home-stay and experienced Japanese culture with their host family.
