ຈະເນັ້ນແຕ່ສິນຄ້າມີ Brand ເຂົ້າມາຂາຍທີ່ Nongchan Complex !

A new high-profile shopping centre set to open in Vientiane late this year will distinguish itself with a marketing strategy that targets brand-name shoppers. Despite the fact that there are many shopping centres in the capital, North Nongchan Complex Development Co. Ltd believes the city is still missing a shopping centre focusing on high-end products.
The company's vice-general manager of marketing, Ms Luo Yanping, said Laos was a good place to launch the high-end product marketing strategy given many Lao shoppers currently cross borders to buy those products abroad. “We will place focus on selling brand-name products. We will not be selling copy products,” she told local media through an interpreter on Thursday.
The four-storey shopping complex is part of the Vientiane Centre project, which is being developed on 5.3 hectares at the Nongchan marsh in Xaysettha district, Vientiane. The three-phase project is being jointly developed by the Yunnan Construction Engineering Group Co. Ltd and the Krittaphong Group Co. Ltd with a concession period of 50 years and the option to extend for a further 20 years.
The shopping centre and the nine-storey office block for rent, which are being developed under the project's first phase at a cost of US$70 million, will have a pilot opening in July followed by an official opening in October.
Ms Yanping said only 30 percent of the department store would be sold out, with the remaining 70 percent continuing to be managed by the developer so the marketing strategy can be fully realised. She said many brand-name products that cannot currently be found at all in Vientiane would be made available at the new centre. Sellers of brand-name products from China, Indonesia, France and Thailand have already booked shops at the mall to display and sell their products, with up to 69 percent of shops available for rent already taken. Among the brands to be sold in the new shops are Guy Laroche, Arrow, BSC Cosmetology, Wacoal, Louis Fontaine, Lee, Wrangler, Casio, Guess Watch, Jockey and John Henry.
“At least 70 percent [of the products] will be brand-name products imported from foreign countries,” Ms Yanping said. The company's high-end marketing strategy came after data showed that more than 700,000 Vientiane residents crossed the Lao-Thai border during the first six months of 2013 to shop in neighbouring Thailand.
Many others fly to Singapore and even France to shop for brand-name goods. “We don't only target Lao customers, but also foreigners and foreign tourists in Laos,” she said. The shopping mall will feature a boutique supermarket and world famous brands of cosmetics, watches, fashion clothes, jewellery, restaurants, cinemas, electronics and home appliances, furniture and so on.
The second phase of the project will involve the construction of hotels, clubs and lakefront businesses, which is expected to be finished in 2015. The third will see residential apartments constructed by 2016. The last two phases will be developed at the cost of about US$50 million, bringing the total investment in the Vientiane Centre to US$120 million. An underground carpark for the shopping centre will also be built, capable of accommodating more than 340 vehicles. Similar parking areas will come with the other two phases as well.

Eyeless spider discovered in Laos cave
Berlin: A scientist has discovered an eyeless huntsman spider, named the Sinopoda scurion, the first of its kind.
With a leg span of only 6 cm and a body span of around 12 mm, the spider is certainly not one of the largest representatives of its kind, with more than 1,100 species.
"We already knew of spiders of this genus from other caves, but they always had eyes and complete pigmentation. Sinopoda scurion is the first huntsman spider without eyes," adds Jager, according to a Senckenberg statement.
The regression of the eyes is attributable to living permanently without daylight. This adaptation was also observed in other cave-dwelling spider species by the Frankfurt arachnologist.
The spiders are in good company: fish, scorpions and crabs that have adapted to caves have already been found in Laos.
Frankfurt researchers have described nine new species of the genus Sinopoda. The fact that all of the species have been found in caves confirms the animals' preference for underground habitats.
The eyeless huntsman spider was named after the Swiss company "Scurion" that makes headlamps for caves. "Sinopoda scurion is the first species that I have named after a company in the context of the Patrons for Biodiversity programme," explains Jager.

Helicopter crews unable to save sacred tree in Southern Laos

Specialists employ a helicopter in an unsuccessful attempt to move the tree.

A mission to recue an ancient manikhoth tree from the Khonphapheng Falls in Champassak province using army helicopters has proved unsuccessful due to uncertainties regarding the submerged section of the large tree, much to the disappointment of the assembled crowd.
Fifteen specialists from Vientiane who were assigned to save the tree were unsure how the helicopters would react when they attempted the lift, as the river had risen and only two metres of the trunk remained exposed on the rock, while a much larger part was submerged in the strong river current.
An official from the Champassak provincial Department of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Sivone Vankhonevilay, who was in charge of the committee set up to rescue the tree, said the specialists were afraid that the submerged section would get stuck in the rocks, so they decided to take the safer option of securing the tree to others on the riverbank.
When the river is at its lowest level in March next year they will attempt to retrieve the tree in safer conditions.

“They told us that unexpected things could occur with their operation because they could not predict what would happen with the part of the tree that was submerged,” Mr Sivone said.
The decision was taken to land two specialists on the rock where the tree stood and secure slings to other large trees on the riverbank nearby. They are confident the tree will not be swept away when the river rises even though the current is getting stronger all the time.
A huge crowd appeared to watch the spectacle, as army personnel attempted to use two army helicopters to move the tree to the riverbank after it toppled over in March.
The tree, which is perched precariously on a rocky outcrop in the middle of the river between Thakhor and Phapheng villages attracted bystanders to the area to support the team but unfortunately they will have to wait until next year. The department has decided to resc ue it on March 19, one year on from the day it fell over.
Mr Sivone explained they were not dragging the chain when it came to organising the rescue attempt, saying they had to be careful to consult with local villagers because the tree had been part of their life for such a long time that the decision was partly up to them.
“The tree has a long history and is significant for local beliefs so we couldn't decide immediately on our own after the tree fell. Apart from the decision by the ministry, we have to ask people in the area whether they agree or disagree,” he said, adding that most people were satisfied with the decision to move the tree to the riverbank.
The manikhoth features as a holy tree in the ancient Sanskrit epic of Phra Lak-Phra Lam, or Ramayana. A manikhoth tree has three limbs. According to legend, fruit eaten from the first limb will bring eternal youth and long life, the second will bring great power and status, while fruit eaten from the third limb, pointing to the west, brings bad luck – and the eater will turn into a monkey.
The history of this tree is unknown but locals say it has been there since they were born.
Many people insist it has been standing for at least 200 years since the era of the Lane Xang Kingdom. Sadly the tree's longstanding prominence came to an end one wet and windy night.

A 26-year-old man from Sydney has died in a flying fox accident in Laos.
Lee Hudswell, 26, from Cronulla in Sydney's south, was on holidays with friends in Laos when the accident happened.
His uncle, Ray Hudswell, has told the ABC his nephew was riding on a flying fox when he either hit a tree or a rock and fell into a river below.
There was a search for him and he was found alive but died on the way to hospital.
New Zealand local Brad Haigh saw the incident and said Mr Hudswell landed badly in the river after he jumped from a tower in the riverside town of Vang Vieng.
"People put him on his side, and tried to resuscitate him. But nobody knew what was happening. He jumped into the river, which is what everyone does, but there was no first aid on the river and no one knew what to do," he told the Sydney Morning Herald
"He was taken to hospital in a tuk tuk. It was shocking. Last year 22 people died here in the river.
"It was my first time tubing and I never want to do it again. Something has to be done – it's all good fun drinking and dancing by the river, but when you add the free whisky, tubing and slides, it's really dangerous."
His father will leave for Laos tomorrow and is said to be distraught by the news.
Consular officials in Vientiane are working with local authorities and assistance is being given to the man's family in Australia.

Temperatures in Laos To Drop As Low As 3° to 4° Celsius This Month

Temperatures will fall again this month and meteorology officials are warning people to prepare for frequent changes in the weather.
“The same low temperatures we experienced last month will reappear this month,” an official said. The temperature dropped to 1.8 degrees Celsius in Xieng Khuang province and 12.8 degrees Celsius in Vientiane last month, while it could drop as low as 3 to 4 degrees Celsius this month.
The department has also forecasted that temperatures will rise and fall from day to day until the end of this month, bringing with it the inevitable unwanted effects on human health.
Despite the temperature having risen in many provinces this week, the cold weather has continued in some areas of the country such in Xaysomboun district of Vientiane province, Khamkeuth district of Borikhamxay province, and Pakxong in Champassak province.
Temperatures took a dive last year when rainfall from March 16 to 18 sent thermometers plunging to below zero in Xieng Khuang province, causing the deaths of more than 3,400 cattle.
Regarding the effects on human health, it’s advised that people keep warm and pay close attention to children and the elderly. Meanwhile organisations and individuals are called on to arrange donations of warm clothing for people facing extreme cold, particularly in the northern provinces.

Thai authorities prevent dog shipments to Vietnam via Laos
Thai authorities stopped a shipment of 300 dogs across the Mekong River en route to the restaurants of Vietnam via Laos, news reports said Monday.
Acting on a tip, naval officers and police raided Thalad village in Nakhon Phanom province Sunday and prevented a boat loaded with the caged dogs from crossing the river into Laos, the Bangkok Post reported.
The dog-traffickers fled the scene, it said.
Dog meat is considered a delicacy by some in Vietnam. Police said prices for dogs have doubled in recent months, from 500 baht (16 dollars) each to 1,000 baht as Thailand cracks down on the trade.
Nakhon Phanom deputy governor Somdee Kahntayangyuen said demand for dog meat had soared as Vietnamese restaurants stock up before the the traditional New Year on January 23.
